Technology
Key Stage 3 Curriculum – broad and balanced curriculum covering wood, metal, food, electronics, graphics, mechanisms, pneumatics, designing, modelling and computer aided design and manufacture. Homework is set weekly with most areas using prepared A5 handouts, which are relevant to the subject being studied. SOWs hit all National Curriculum attainment targets.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum – established courses in GCSE Resistant Materials, Graphics and Health & Social Care, BTEC Hospitality.
Consistently high examination results/value added performance has been achieved in Resistant Materials and Graphics. Results in Health and Social Care are improving annually. BTEC Hospitality has produced 100% pass rate in 2008 and 2009.
Post 16 – currently AS level/BTEC Level 3 Health & Social Care is being offered. AS and A2 Graphic Design is offered at Deansfield and Wednesfield High.
Key Stage 3 Strategy – three part lessons being delivered by all staff (starter, main, plenary). Learning objectives written on board and shared with the class (revisited when appropriate to check understanding). Product evaluation, self evaluation and evaluation of other students work takes place in many modules of work.
Literacy – key words identified in department assessment sheets; some starters include a spelling test of technical words, some homework tasks require students to find out the meaning of technical words or phrases.
Numeracy – identified on departmental assessment sheets. When Numeracy is used in lessons it is recorded on the assessment sheets.
ICT – increasing use of ICT in Technology lessons including CAD/CAM, which is delivered as a module of work. Computer provision is constantly improving with the addition this year of eight new flat screen computers in Graphics.
Assessment for Learning – self and peer assessment regularly takes place throughout the curriculum area. Both peer assessment pro-formas and other methods of peer assessment is used in most areas.
PSHE/Citizenship – identified on departmental assessment sheets where an assessment is made on the students ability to work safely and co-operatively while sharing tools and equipment. Some homework sheets in KS3 address citizenship.
Extra-Curricular Activities – many staff work through their lunch time to enable students to catch up on work missed or to work on advanced projects which require individual tuition. This year a Rocket Making Club has been a great success with Year 7.
